half-helterskelter-half-twinkly asked: Actually, PBS doesn't have any ads, but it's shown as part of Masterpiece Theater, which has it's own introduction, including theme music and a host who chats before they start showing the feature. As far as I know, THAT'S why it's cut.

dramapunk asked: They also cut it so they can fit more add time in, because in the BBC broadcast they don't have as many if any adds.

awakeningonmars asked: don't know if this is a silly question but why would pbs feel the need to edit for the american broadcast anyway? like, is it due to time constraints or what?

Anonymous asked: They also cut a few pieces of Pink, only one of which was, I think, important: they cut the bit about Hope killing for the sake of his children's futures. Short bit, but I think it's quite important.

pure-mornings asked: RE: earlier asks, "what killer hunts in public?" is super important, that line is what made me guess taxi driver—and isn't it so great when you call who the killer is and you're right?

Anonymous asked: I would just like to point out to the previous anon that the version you see on PBS is cut by Masterpiece Theatre - which is run on PBS, but not by PBS. It's just a program that they carry/run. So PBS is not actually responsible for what does and doesn't get cut in the American version. Kisses!

Anonymous asked: Re: pbs cutting scenes.. in The Great Game they cut the whole scene where John visits Westley's fiancee. I watched the episode for the first time on pbs and it wasn't a big deal but when I saw the entire episode on Dvd everything made a lot more sense. I wish they could just leave the episodes intact.

trippydooda asked: i keep seeing asks about PBS cutting out scenes in Sherlock, and boooy do they ever. v______v they cut out the scene in A Study in Pink where Sherlock is walking down the street with John and he's like, "what killer hunts in public?" or something. like, for srs, that was an important part.

Anonymous asked: (I'm the anon that asked about cut scenes.) Thanks! I've already seen S2, but I was debating whether to show it to my dad on PBS, or wait until the DVD release. I think the cuts will bother the hell out of me, so I guess I'll just wait for the DVD. :P

wibblywobblysexywexy asked: I also was at the Long Beach screening of ASiB and besides the taxi scene with the ash tray, they also cut out part where Mycroft calls Sherlock a virgin and the "I'm not the commonwealth" line.

Anonymous asked: They cut the taxi scene where Sherlock shows the ashtray he nicked to John. If there was anything else cut out of the preview, I didn't notice, but I think we can assume PBS cut more than just that.

lauralex asked: I saw the sneak peek of ASiB put on by PBS in Long Beach today (they showed the first third of the episode) and there were definitely edits. Particularly to the Buckingham Palace scene. It sucks that they have to cut for the American broadcast but at least the edits were subtly done. I didn't even notice a couple of them until thinking about it hours later.
