Absinthe Sherlock

For Let’s Draw Sherlock, based off of the Absinthe Robette poster by Henri Privat-Livemont (one of my favorite pieces of art in existence, and the fact that it was made as an advertisement doesn’t detract from its value at all, in my opinion.) I couldn’t not attempt this image. Bonus - tiny John and that sneaky wallpaper! This was somehow both the most tedious and most enjoyable thing I’ve drawn in a long time!

I’ve been wanting to make something for Red Pants Monday for a very, very long time. I’m glad I finally got the time to do it.

This started off as a sketch for a friend, to illustrate a scene from a college AU we’ve been chatting about for the past couple of days. It breaks my heart to represent the toll Holmes’ drug use takes on him — how he’s so skinny he looks like he’s nothing but corners, how his eyes look like bruises on a skull — but even more bittersweet is how absolutely unaffected Watson is by his appearance. He doesn’t shy away because he knows everything else that Holmes is.

Oh, and because it’s a little tricky to see, here’s Watson’s notes.

~~… yeah. That totally is a drawing of a pelvis. I’m so unapologetically immature.~~
